FIRST AID PROGRAM SYNOPSIS
Introduction: Sign in, distribute materials, introduce Instructor, what is First Aid, why is it used, what it is not, common misconceptions and mistakes, potential victims: who are they, difference between minor and major injuries, when and how to call for help, why some who know First Aid refuse to help.
Legal Issues: Liability, rights and responsibilities of rescuer, what not to do
Universal Precautions: Disease transmission in First Aid, self-protection: rubber gloves, hand washing, disinfecting surfaces and self, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Program as pertains to First Aid Providers.
Minor Injuries: Diagnosis and treatment. Differentiating between minor and major injuries - what to do if not sure.
Basic First Aid: Diagnosis and treatment of other injuries/illnesses. See following list of topics for itemization of areas covered.
Prevention & Wrap Up: Providing our toll-free, 24-hour number (a resource given to every student so that the student may call if he/she has questions after class, loses the First Aid Recognition Card, etc.) and strategies for preventing injuries.
Basic First Aid Topics (ERI):
In compliance with OSHA recommendations, the topic of Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) transmission and the prevention thereof (in the context of First Aid) will be included. Programs for Child Care Professionals include procedures for adults, children, and infants. Certification of Training card awarded to each trainee at conclusion of class.
